"Focusing on the use of masonry in construction, Masonry: Design, Materials and Techniques is a book updated with the latest sustainable materials and practices. This book emphasizes the use of structural masonry, from the historical masonry and use of masonry in historical constructions, the use of masonry in vernacular constructions and the use of masonry in recent buildings. It includes such aspects of masonry from ancient traditions to the latest advances, materials, and techniques. In each chapter, the thematic issues are supported by case studies featuring monumental buildings, low-rise buildings with unreinforced masonry, and recent RC buildings with clay masonry. Masonry: Design, Materials and Techniques covers the following topics: Materials and techniques used in masonry construction, seismic behavior of URM buildings, monumental buildings, monitoring and assessment, numerical strategies used for masonry buildings, structural behavior and design of low-rise, wall bearing buildings, non-destructive tests in the characterization of masonry walls, vulnerability and sustainability of vernacular construction, and codes and design of RC buildings with infill masonry walls"--

The Wall is a poetic exploration--across time, space, and language, real as well as metaphorical--of the U.S.-Mexican wall dividing the two civilizations, of similar walls (Jerusalem, China, Berlin, Warsaw, etc.) in history, and of the act of separating people by ideology, class, race, and other subterfuges. It is an indictment of hateful political rhetoric. In the spirit of Virgil's Aeneid and Spoon River Anthology by Edgar Lee Master, it gives voice in symphonic fashion to an assortment of participants (immigrants, border patrol, soldiers, activists, presidents, people dead and alive) involved in the debate on walls. It brings in elements of literature and pop culture, fashion and cuisine. Poetry becomes a tool to explore raw human emotions in all its extremes.

This book contains seven parts. The first part deals with some aspects of rainfall analysis, including rainfall probability distribution, local rainfall interception, and analysis for reservoir release. Part 2 is on evapotranspiration and discusses development of neural network models, errors, and sensitivity. Part 3 focuses on various aspects of urban runoff, including hydrologic impacts, storm water management, and drainage systems. Part 4 deals with soil erosion and sediment, covering mineralogical composition, geostatistical analysis, land use impacts, and land use mapping. Part 5 treats remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS) applications to different hydrologic problems. Watershed runoff and floods are discussed in Part 6, encompassing hydraulic, experimental, and theoretical aspects. Water modeling constitutes the concluding Part 7. Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT), Xinanjiang, and Soil Conservation Service-Curve Number (SCS-CN) models are discussed. The book is of interest to researchers and practitioners in the field of water resources, hydrology, environmental resources, agricultural engineering, watershed management, earth sciences, as well as those engaged in natural resources planning and management. Graduate students and those wishing to conduct further research in water and environment and their development and management find the book to be of value.

The classical concept of organizations as comprising solitary 'walled-in' actors with clear operational boundaries is increasingly being challenged. On the one hand, established organizational forms have been supplemented by a whole variety of new ones that only partially exhibit their properties and that frequently embed single organizations in national or transnational networks; furthermore, it is often not clear who the members of an organization are and what membership actually means, as in the case of new companies such as Uber or AirBnB, and even traditional organizations, such as universities, are undergoing drastic changes. On the other hand, organizations face increasing demands for transparency, meaning they have to disclose more and more information, which is supposed to engender less corruption, more efficiency, and more legitimacy. This volume investigates the impact of these changes on organizations and offers conceptual as well as empirical insights. Divided into four parts this volume examines concepts of organizational boundaries, boundaries and organizational dynamics, meta organization and organizational networks, and boundaries and organizational fields.
